Bodmin Public Rooms Trust is a registered charity formed to save the Public Rooms for the community of Bodmin and the surrounding area.
In April 2013 Bodmin Town council closed The Public Rooms and despite public objections and our negotiations with them they have now put the building up for sale on the open market for £133,500
Why is it important to save this building for the community
Bodmin is a deprived area with few leisure facilities, here are just some of activities the building could be used for …
- Dance classes or for fun, from Swing and Tap to Ballet and Ballroom. Morris dancing and Barn dances!
- Communtiy activities - Bingo, Craft Fayres, Beer festivals, Indoor car boot sales, Kids discos and roller discos!
- Entertainment - Plays, Concerts, Musical Theatre, Cinema club and local Pantomime!
- Health & fitness - Martial Arts, Yoga, Gymnastics, Zumba!
We aim to open the doors of this fabulous building once again to the local community. Increased activities in the centre of the town will help local business and revitalise the town and make Bodmin a better place to live.
The Public Rooms were built by the tradesmen of Bodmin for the people of Bodmin and for many years were at the heart of the social and community life of the town. This Grade II listed building celebrates its 125th anniversary this year. Sadly in April 2013 Bodmin Town Council closed this valuable community asset and despite public objections and our negotiations with them they have now put The Public Rooms on the open market for £133,500.
Bodmin is a deprived area with few leisure facilities, Bodmin Public Rooms Trust want to buy, restore and refurbish this fantastic building to create one of Cornwall’s premier entertainment venues. This mixed, multi-purspace will flexible enough to cater for music gigs, comedy and theatre as well as cater for community group and social events. We aim to open the doors of this fabulous building once again to the local community, but drawing its audience cpountywide. Increased activities in the centre of the town will help local business and revitalise the town and make Bodmin a better place to live.
Please help us with our fundraising
This is an exciting project, but we need to take immediate action to purchase the building, to ensure it remains a public building for community use. We need to raise an initial £50,000 towards the sale price… and that’s where you come in.
