DO YOU PUT PEOPLE WHO REJECT YOU ON A PEDESTAL?
ONLY DATE THOSE WHO ARE EMOTIONALLY UNAVAILABLE?
AFRAID OF GETTING TOO CLOSE?
FILL YOUR NIGHTS WITH MEANINGLESS SEX JUST TO GET YOUR DOSE OF ‘CONNECTION?’
THE SO-SO YOU DON’T KNOW web series is a dark comedy about urban loneliness. We all know what it’s like to think love will take away our emptiness, only to find out it’s an inside job. Therapist Rhonda Vasalo is running a Groupon special for new clients, but little do these New Yorkers know what they’ve signed up for. The characters in each episode run the spectrum of all race, creed, and gender. Young, old, beautiful, ugly, privileged and unprivileged. What everyone has in common is the need to connect. Love is hard, but self-love is harder.
Marlene Rhein, creator of THE SO-SO YOU DON’T KNOW. She has shot over 60 music videos (including 2Pac’s last and one for Amy Winehouse), commercials, short films and a feature.
Her first feature film, THE BIG SHOT-CALLER, was released theatrically in 2009, and was based on the true story of her younger brother’s vision disability and passion for salsa dancing. Selected by Filmmaker Magazine as one of their “Top 25 New Faces of Independent Film,” and has been reviewed by the New York Times and featured on radio shows.
Marlene Rhein directed countless music videos for Icons like 2Pac Shakur (his last) and Amy Winehouse. With a new commitment to tell personal and relatable stories with grit and humor, she went on to write and direct several short films and web series. After a recent heartbreak from a pattern of seeking out emotionally unavailable men, Marlene wrote the show, THE SO-SO YOU DON’T KNOW, a dark comedy about urban loneliness.
She interviewed hundreds of New Yorkers of all races, creeds, and sexual orientations, and then wrote a full season of episodes about a not-so-perfect therapist running a Groupon special for new clients and the everyday clients who walk in the door. They seem to all want a quick fix for their pain, only to find out the hard way that love is an inside job.

Marlene has started a crowdfunding campaign with a goal of raising $30,000 so that she can shoot all episodes of Season One and get it out to the public. This money will go towards hiring local NY crew and actors, pay for locations, permits, lighting, sound equipment, post-production crew, sound design, music composition.
“Your donations will help bring this project to into the hearts and minds of others. The goal of all of my projects, particularly this one, is to touch and uplift people using the guise of humor and entertainment. We all seek out stories that resonate with us, and I promise you this one will do just that” says Marlene.
