With Momo’s Rug you can create endless designs, and make your own rug as you please.
What makes it unique? Momo’s Rug is design in a way that you can choose the size, the colors and the patterns for your rug. What is the possibility that other mind create the same rug as you do?!
How it is made?
The Momo’s Rug are made by Momostenango artisans. Momostenango is a region from Totonicapan, Guatemala, that is famous because its ponchos (blankets) and rugs.
The Momo’s Rug is a handmade wool rug. There is two kinds of rugs, the flatwoven and the high pile rug.
The natives get the wool from the sheeps that they raise in their homes and farms. This wool is washed with soap and with a root of a plant known as Ixmatzin. Then carded with iron spikes until the fibers gets smooth and untangled.
For spinning they use a prehispanic winch, then comes the preparation of the fabric, which is executed with a pedal loom. Then proceeds to dye.
After this. The wool is dipped into boiling water to make it to swell and increase in thickness. At the same time, manufacturers squeeze and trample it steadily until compacting. Then dried and danger lift lint fabric. The latter is done with a fan-shaped brush made of holy thistle thorns.
