Serilahh - A truly Malaysian Cafe in Siem Reap, Cambodia

Help us materialise Serilahh – A truly Malaysian Café which serves delicious, halal, Malaysian foods for a purpose!

A portion of the bill paid by each customer will aid two projects; Mission Coffee – a microfinance programme that lends start-up capital to families to run coffee cart businesses and to refurbish Tuk-Tuks in the Kingdom of Wonder – Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Our Story

Hi everyone!

My name is Shabana, also known as Seri and this is our story.

I used to live the Corporate Dream with a big salary and elevated social status but after almost 11 years working in the field of Public Relations, I decided to quit my job and change my life’s path.

I did this because I realised that I was neither pursuing my passion, nor was I growing as an individual or contributing beyond myself in a meaningful way.

I knew I had more in me because I wanted to do more and contribute to mankind in a meaningful way and this clarity was crystal clear to me when I was on an ‘Eat-Pray-Play-Love’ journey to Siem Reap, Cambodia after quitting my job in 2015.  During this journey, I volunteered at a local NGO and chanced upon the idea of being a social entrepreneur.

Together with my best friend – who’s been in the F&B business for many moons, the idea of the first Malaysian Café in Siem Reap, Cambodia was conceived.  Since we both love Malaysian foods, we have decided to showcase the many flavours of Malaysia to the communities and travelers of Siem Reap.

The name ‘Serilahh’ which is from the word ‘Seri’ came about when we had a brainstorming session with our friends who lived around the globe. During the chat, the group was inspired to take on my nickname, ‘Seri’.

Seri’ simply means beautiful or beautiful and happy thoughts in the Malay language. While lahh is a slang used by Malaysians, in which the particle ‘lah’ is used at the end of a sentence to convey light-heartedness, politeness and a flexible effect.

Today, I live by the mantra, ‘if it truly changed your life, how could you not tell people about it and pay it forward?’ Rather than being caught up in the rat race in the struggle for wealth or power, I’ve decided to focus on my real priorities: health, relationships, passion, growth, and social service.
