Solution-focused 3-week tech workshop for 30 high school students in Ghana. Inspire! Innovate! Impact.
Project ISWEST 2015 is a solution-focused, 3-week workshop for 30 high school students in Ghana. It is our goal to attract at least 15 girls to this workshop in line with our mission of getting more women into STEM. The 3-part program includes the following modules:
1-Week Intensive Workshop (6hrs each day: 9am – 4pm, 1hr break)
In the first part of the program, participants will form 6 teams each consisting of 5 members to work on their respective projects. Each group will choose to work on a project from these 5 categories:
Each group will receive active coaching through the innovation process – problem identification, solution building, prototyping, business plan development and project deployment.
2-Week Innovation Phase
In the second part of the program, 6 teams of students will receive funds, and be tasked to develop innovative, cost efficient and potentially scalable solutions to problems they have identified in the community over a two-week period using provided resources, locally available materials and the skills they obtained from the workshop. Members of Team Nsesa will support and consult with project groups in the process.
The Pitch Day, iSWEST Clubs & Labs
The climax of the summer program will be the final day dubbed “The Pitch Day” when students will present their developed solutions to various problems. High School officials will be invited to the project presentations, along with policy makers and various organizations. Teams will be assessed on the impact, sustainability, technical feasibility and business viability of their projects. The most viable ones will receive funding for further development.
